After the budget discussions, the cuts for development cooperation will be partially reversed. Nevertheless, the funds will still decrease by more than 9 percent compared to the previous year 2022. Richard Schottdorf, member of the BvBBI Board of Directors, explains: "The planned budget is not sufficient to meet the dramatic current challenges. The pandemic and the consequences of the war in Ukraine are exacerbating poverty worldwide. The consequences of climate change are also being felt in particular by people in the global south. It is not a good signal that the budget for development cooperation is being cut in this situation. At least the funds for humanitarian aid remain at the level of the previous year. It is imperative that more funds from the crisis reserve be made available for development cooperation."
