The images from eastern Turkey and parts of Syria shake us all. A devastating earthquake took people by surprise on Monday, Feb. 6, 2023. Within a short time, entire housing complexes, including hospitals, schools, apartments and houses, collapsed.

23 million people in Syria and Turkey have been affected by the earthquake, reports the World Health Organization (WHO), with over 5,000 deaths a day after the earthquake disaster. Fast help is needed now!
The people on the ground now need above all drinking water, food, medicines, temporary shelters and protection from the cold.

One member of the BvBBI, the Internationaler Bund (IB), is active in Turkey. Since 2014, the IB has been actively working with local, national and international actors on behalf of the German Bundesministerium für wirtschaftliche Zusammenarbeit und Entwicklung (BMZ) and the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) to implement projects that promote education and social development for disadvantaged groups, especially refugees, offering solutions in terms of sustainability, economic growth and poverty reduction. The IB with its subsidiary IBETH is also active in the border region between Turkey and Syria.

The IB has selected two reputable, politically neutral aid organizations to which these funds will flow in equal shares. One of these is AKUT. It is a non-governmental volunteer organization for the search and rescue of victims in accidents or natural disasters. It works with intensively trained personnel and specialized equipment.

The other organization is called Ahbap. It distributes food and medicine in crisis areas. Both organizations were chosen, among other things, because they help those in need of protection, regardless of their ethnic origin or political views. Your donations make this possible.

Your donation with the keyword "earthquake" will fully benefit the two organizations and enable them to provide rapid assistance on the ground. Donate at: bvbbi.de/bvbbi/uns/spenden
